Malachite là một khoáng chất hydroxit đồng cacbonat, với công thức Cu2CO3(OH) 2. Khoáng chất có dải màu xanh lục, mờ đục này kết tinh trong hệ thống tinh thể đơn tà, và hầu hết thường tạo thành các khối dạng thực vật, dạng sợi hoặc thạch nhũ, trong các vết đứt gãy và không gian sâu, dưới lòng đất, nơi mực nước ngầm và chất lỏng thủy nhiệt.
