Substance Pt (platin)
Platin là kim loại quý hiếm bậc nhất trên thế giới được sử dụng nhiều nhất trong ngành công nghiệp chế tác trang sức từ xưa tới nay. Ngoài ra bạch kim được áp dụng nhiều trong y tế, dược phẩm, chất dẫn điện… Mặc dù có nhiều công dụng nhưng kim loại này chỉ chiếm một phần rất nhỏ trong tổng trọng lượng vỏ Trái Đất. Platin là nguyên tố có màu trắng bạc, sáng bóng, dẻo và dễ uốn, Platin bền và không bị ôxy hóa, bị ăn mòn bởi các halogen, xcyanua, lưu huỳnh và dung dịch kiềm ăn da. Platin không hòa tan trong axit clohiđric và axit nitric, nhưng tan trong nước cường toan để tạo thành axit hexacloroplatinic(IV), H2PtCl6. Platin ít bị mài mòn và mờ cho nên thường sử dụng để làm đồ trang sức mỹ nghệ. Kim loại này khó bị ăn mòn, chịu được nhiệt độ cao và có tính dẫn điện ổn định cho nên được sử dụng trong các ứng dụng công nghiệp
