Axit metoxyacetic là một chất lỏng trong, không màu, trộn lẫn với nước. Nó là axit axetic trong đó một trong các hydro metyl được thay thế bằng một nhóm metoxy. Nó có vai trò như một chất chuyển hóa xenobiotic ở người, một chất cảm ứng apoptosis, một chất gây đột biến và một chất chống ung thư. Axit metoxyacetic độc khi ăn phải, có thể gây quái thai. Khi đun nóng để phân hủy nó phát ra khói chát và khói gây khó chịu.
KI với liều lượng 130 mg thường được dùng cho mục đích cấp cứu phơi nhiễm phóng xạ. KI cũng được sử dụng trong dạng dung dịch bão hòa với khoảng 1000 mg KI/ml. KI hoặc KIO3 thường được trộn vào muối ăn làm muối iốt.
