Phốtphin là một hợp chất hóa học giữa phốtpho và hyđrô, công thức hóa học là PH3. Đây là chất khí không màu, rất độc, có mùi tỏi, rất kém bền so với Amoniac cháy trong không khí ở 1500C, khi có mặt điphotphin (P2H4) nó tự cháy trong không khí ở nhiệt độ thường tạo khối cầu lửa bay lơ lửng. PH3 sinh ra trong quá trình phân hủy xác động thực vật, nhất là ở xương. Nó thường xuất hiện ở bãi tha ma trong thời tiết mưa phùn, gió bấc nên gọi là "ma trơi".

Nó được sử dụng nhiều như tác nhân làm khô cho sơn, vecni và mực, trong việc điều chế các hợp chất coban khác, như một chất xúc tác và trong việc sản xuất điện cực pin. Coban(II) hydroxit kết tủa như một chất rắn khi một hydroxit kim loại kiềm được thêm vào một dung dịch nước muối Co2+: Co2+ + 2NaOH → Co(OH)2 + 2Na+
