Ở nhiệt độ phòng K2S2O8 là một chất rắn màu trắng , tan nhẹ trong nước lạnh và tan tốt hơn trong nước ấm, là một chất oxy hóa mạnh, thường được sử dụng để bắt đầu phản ứng trùng hợp. Khi đun nóng kali persulfat sẽ phân hủy, nguy hiểm, phát ra khói có chứa oxit lưu huỳnh có độc tính cao.
