Natri metaborat là một muối natri vô cơ, có dạng tinh thể không màu, tan được trong nước, không tan trong ete, etanol. Nó được điều chế bằng cách kết hợp natri cacbonat và Bo oxit B2O3 hoặc borax Na2B4O7. Một cách khác để tạo ra hợp chất là phản ứng tổng hợp hàn the với natri hydroxit ở 700°C: B2O3 + 2 NaOH → 2 NaBO2 + H2O

Tricrom dicacbua tồn tại dưới dạng chất rắn tinh thể hình thoi màu xám. Nó rất cứng và chống ăn mòn. Nó cũng là một hợp chất chịu lửa nên được sử dụng nhiều như một chất phụ gia cho các hợp kim kim loại.
