Cyclopropan là một chất khí không màu, có mùi giống dầu mỏ, dễ bị bắt lửa, hơi nặng hơn không khí. Tiếp xúc với cyclopropa lỏng có thể gây tê cóng. Hơi cyclopropan có tác dụng gây mê ở nồng độ cao (trước đây được sử dụng như một loại khí gây mê). Trong điều kiện tiếp xúc lâu với lửa hoặc nhiệt độ cao, các thùng chứa có thể bị vỡ dữ dội và nổ tung. Cyclopropan là một loại thuốc gây mê tuyệt vời với tác dụng khởi phát và hồi phục rất nhanh trong khi vẫn duy trì huyết động ổn định. Việc sử dụng nó bị hạn chế vì nó rất dễ nổ.
