Dichloromethane là chất lỏng không màu, có mùi ngọt, giống như ete, không hòa trộn với nước,. Không cháy ở nhiệt độ phòng. Tiếp xúc với nhiệt độ cao có thể bay ra khói clorua độc hại. Dùng làm dung môi , tẩy sơn, và để loại bỏ caffein khỏi cà phê và trà. Diclomêtan lần đầu được nhà hóa học người Pháp Henri Victor Regnault tổng hợp năm 1839, cô lập nó từ hỗn hợp của clorometan và clo được phơi sáng.
Tridecane là chất lỏng trong suốt màu vàng rơm có dầu, có mùi hydrocacbon. Tiếp xúc với da nhiều lần hoặc kéo dài có thể gây kích ứng hoặc đỏ da, tiến triển thành viêm da. Tiếp xúc với nồng độ hơi cao có thể dẫn đến đau đầu và choáng váng. Tridecan là một ankan mạch thẳng có chứa 13 nguyên tử cacbon. Nó tạo thành một thành phần của tinh dầu được phân lập từ thực vật như Abelmoschus esculentus. Nó có vai trò như một chất chuyển hóa thực vật và một thành phần dầu dễ bay hơi.
