Valine là một axit amin chuỗi nhánh bao gồm glycine, trong đó một trong các hydro được gắn vào alpha-carbon được thay thế bởi một nhóm isopropyl. Nó có vai trò như một chất chuyển hóa thực vật. Nó là một axit amin có công thức phân tử là HOOCCH(NH2)CH(CH3)2 Nhà khoa học Emil Fischer đã phân lập được Valine từ Casein năm 1901 bằng phương pháp thủy phân protein. Ngày nay Valine được ghi nhận là amino acid thiết yếu mạch nhánh giữ vai trò kích thích phát triển. Valine cùng Leucine và Isoleucine là bộ ba amino acid mạch nhánh cấu thành hơn 2/3 tổng lượng amino acid trong cơ thể, giữ vai trò vô giá đối với con người.
