Clo pentaflorua là chất khí không màu, có mùi ngọt. Độc khi hít phải và là chất gây kích ứng da, mắt và màng nhầy. Ăn mòn. Nặng hơn không khí. Các phản ứng điều chế clo pentaflorua: ClF3 + F2 → ClF5 ClF + 2F2 → ClF5 Cl2 + 5F2 → 2ClF5 CsClF4 + F2 → CsF + ClF5
